MySQL Installer (R6all)

MySQL is the world’s most popular open source database. With its proven performance, reliability and ease-of-use, MySQL has become the leading database choice for web-based applications, used by high profile web properties including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Yahoo! and many more.

So you might ask: “MySQL is included in the operating system and I can install it with just some commands on an SSH shell, so why this app?”. Well, it’s true that MySQL is included in the Debian repositories upon which ReadyNAS OS is built. Howver, when installing directly from these repositories you’ll end up with MySQL placing it’s data files on the boot partition of your ReadyNAS. Depending on how big your databases are this may lead to filling up your OS partition pretty fast. That’s why this app was built: It places the MySQL data on the same partition where the apps and shares reside, thus it is not filling the OS partition. Also it includes some minor enhancements, for example placing the data of each table in a separate file instead of using just two files for all databases and tables. In case you already installed MySQL the app will take care of that too and copy your data over to the new location.

Important: From version 1.0.3 on this add-on will install MariaDB instead of MySQL on the ReadyNAS. The reason for this is that some newer apps require database features not to be found in the release of MySQL shipping with the ReadyNAS OS. They are however included in the MariaDB version that is part of the repositories for ReadyNAS OS. Before installing the MySQL Installer please make sure you have updated the apps that are using a MySQL type database on your ReadyNAS to the latest version available.
